Iran to pursue war reparations from Iraq

TEHRAN, July 24 (MNA) – Iran will pursue getting war reparations from Iraq, Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani stated on Saturday.

Although certain paragraphs of the UN Resolution 598 have been implemented, the paragraph on getting war reparations from Iraq has not been implemented yet, Larijani said.

This has been due to the internal conditions in Iraq and mischievous acts of some countries, but Iran will pursue the matter in the future, he added.

When asked if the issue of war reparations could damage the friendly Iran-Iraq ties, he said this matter must be clarified soon and should not be left in the annals of history, ISNA reported.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Larijani stated that the terrorist attacks taken place in the southern part of Iran have their roots in “security” affairs and are not directly related to the “political” or “cultural” issues.

Intelligence services of the U.S. and NATO are behind these incidents, and since the attacks are issues of security, they could be resolved through security channels, he opined.

Larijani urged people to be “politically” prudent, saying that the enemies’ aim is to sow discord between Sunnis and Shiites.
